Tier 1 — Highest ROI, Start Here
1. Salesforce Administrator — The undisputed best first certification for most people. It unlocks the most entry-level jobs, requires no programming knowledge, and is the foundation that makes every other Salesforce cert easier. If you are new to the ecosystem, start here.
2. Platform Developer I — The must-have cert for anyone who wants to write Apex, build LWCs, or work as a Salesforce developer. Employers treat it as the baseline for developer hiring. Learn Apex fundamentals and pass this next if you plan to code.
3. Sales Cloud Consultant or Service Cloud Consultant — High demand, strong salary uplift, and directly applicable to the vast majority of Salesforce implementations. Recommended after Admin for those moving into consulting or implementation roles.
Tier 2 — High Value, Take After Tier 1
4. Advanced Administrator — Deepens your Admin expertise with more complex automation, security, and change management topics. Pairs well with Admin to signal senior capability.
5. Platform App Builder — Validates declarative development skills. Good for developers who work closely with admins or business analysts. Some overlap with Admin, making it easier to pass second.
6. Platform Developer II — Harder than PD1, with more emphasis on integration patterns, advanced Apex, and performance. Pursue this after 1–2 years of hands-on development experience.
Tier 3 — Specialist Roles
7. Agentforce Specialist — Fast-growing area with very few certified professionals currently. High demand and low supply make this a smart strategic bet for 2025 and beyond.
8. MuleSoft Developer I — Valuable for integration-focused roles. Best pursued if your project work regularly involves Anypoint Platform or API-led connectivity architectures.
The Rule
Chase the certification that matches the role you want next, not the one that sounds most impressive. A well-prepared Admin cert beats an under-prepared Architect cert every time.
